Our Mission, Focus & Approach

Mission Statement: Detroit Achievement Academy exists to holistically support the education and development of students who have the determination, drive, and skills to shape their own path of high achievement with the ultimate goal of creating civically engaged, joyful citizens who are ready to change the world.

Vision Statement: We at Detroit Achievement Academy (DAA) want to shake things up a bit. We have a grand vision for what education can look like and are excited to be creating it in the great city of Detroit. We have the best curriculum in the country, are dedicated to feeding our students healthy, locally-grown food and teaching them about it, and are committed to our students’ families and to our neighborhood. We have an organic garden in our yard and a farmers’ market in our parking lot. We believe that all students can achieve at high levels and that it is our responsibility to support them in an intense and holistic way. We are thrilled to be able to provide a world-class education in a world-class city.

Our instructional focus is on Direct Instruction, Experiential Learning and Music & Art. Expeditionary Learning (EL), our learning model, is Project-Based and a product of the Harvard School of Education and Outward Bound. EL schools outperform traditional schools in the same districts by an average of 12%, and even greater gains are shown in low-income schools. Our top priorities for students are excellent instruction and small class sizes. Our students feel loved and safe, and all enjoy attending school every day.

We have a 100% parent satisfaction rate. The top reasons our families choose DAA are our dedication to providing top notch instruction and curriculum, as well as feeding our students three healthy meals per day. We proudly encourage parental involvement through an open door policy, monthly parent nights, and actively seeking parent feedback and advice in major decision-making.

Our staff chooses DAA because we empower them and pay 15% more than the average charter school. Our teachers are the most important people in our building and we make sure they feel as valued as they are. Our team fosters student growth by having a low student to teacher ratio, dedicated to each student's success.
