Our Mission, Focus & Approach

Mission statement:
The Mission of ACE Academy, in partnership with youth-serving agencies, is to re-engage youth in the active pursuit of self-improvement, interpersonal growth and educational development. Within a climate where students, staff and stakeholders feel safe, secure and valued as individuals, the Academy encourages all students to excel to their highest potential, while providing the support and tools needed to explore the infinite possibilities that leaning and life has to offer.

Vision Statement:
ACE Academy is founded on the belief that all students can learn if provided a nurturing and challenging environment where expectations are high and support is bountiful. As a strict discipline academy, ACE is a highly specialized environment catering to the needs of youth who, for any number of reasons, have already disengaged from learning within other traditional school settings. The Academy’s vision is to work in partnership and cooperation with other agencies that also serve these same students.

Creating a new avenue for continuity in services along a continuum of care-prevention, intervention, and aftercare -- has long been the goal of many youth-serving agencies including Spectrum Juvenile Justice Services. However, the missing link within this logical approach to helping youth and families has been the challenge of providing a stable educational environment throughout the entire time they are being served by the larger social services system. ACE Academy provides the missing link.

Ace Academy has created a blended learning environment for credit recovery and advanced learning opportunities. The program delivery includes direct instruction in core curriculum areas, physical education and active exercise, and supplemental online learning. Cross-curricular enrichment programs are rotated to reinforce reading, language, math skills, art, foreign language, and team-based projects designed to connect students to meaningful community and real-life learning experiences. Reading and writing skills are taught across all core subject areas using the CCSS literacy benchmarks to provide targeted instruction for students.

The top priority for the students is to re-engage and re-connect each student to learning; also to impress upon them the value of continued education. Never giving up on their educational path, overcoming all obstacles to complete their personal educational goals. Dedicated, devoted and consistent staff exhibits a feeling of security to the students ensuring kids leave school each day inspired to return. Allowing the students to trust and believe that each teacher will follow through and be there for them no matter the circumstances. Relevant and engaging lessons also promote a since of responsibility from each student to complete and succeed in their educational process. We measure student engagement through student surveys and daily point allocation for class participation.

Our dedicated staff has a feeling of giving back to the community from which our students are separated. Our students are not the traditional student that attends school within the community. The various situations that bring our students to us allows the teachers to show a more hands-on and personal touch, allowing each teacher to give to each individual student the skills required of them to succeed when they return to the community. The teachers are able to watch the fruits of their labor grow because they are able to build closer bonds with the students versus in a traditional environment where class sizes are much larger.

ACE Academy has a class built into the daily schedule that involves reviewing and assessing each student’s Person Educational Path plan. The PEP class allows for discussion and plan revision of the pre- and post-assessments that are given upon a student’s arrival and exit of the program. Summative and formative assessments are in place in order to gauge a student’s progress toward meeting their individual educational goals. The entire staff meets as a whole to plan and develop strategies needed for each individual student’s success.

Homework is given daily. Homework is a vital portion of the educational environment. It is given as reinforcement and practice of skills taught in the classroom.
